Application

Sales of the core product, molecular-sieve pervaporation membranes, are made to the United States and the European Union.

Acetone

Background Art

Acetone is a colorless, transparent liquid with a distinctive pungent odor. It is miscible with water and with organic solvents such as methanol, ethanol, diethyl ether, chloroform, and pyridine. It is highly flammable and readily volatile, and exhibits relatively reactive chemical properties. Industrially, acetone is primarily used as a solvent in sectors including explosives, plastics, rubber, fibers, leather processing, fats and oils, and paint manufacturing. It also serves as an important raw material for the synthesis of ketenes, acetic anhydride, iodoform, polyisoprene rubber, methyl methacrylate, chloroform, epoxy resins, and other compounds.

Process Comparison

Taking the 4,000 t/year acetone dehydration process as an example, with an initial acetone water content of 20 wt.% and a product water content of ≤0.5 wt.%, the operating energy consumption of packed‑column distillation, supergravity distillation, and membrane dehydration technologies was compared.

Operation

The operation is complex and requires continuous monitoring of the overhead composition to make timely adjustments.

It is easy to operate and highly automated, but the high-gravity rotating bed has relatively high maintenance costs in the long term.

Simple operation, high degree of automation, and stable product quality.
