The 2021 China Membrane Industry Development Summit and the Fourth “Matashahu” High-Level Forum on the Membrane Industry, co-hosted by the China Membrane Industry Association, the Chemical Park Working Committee of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation, and the People’s Government of Zibo City, was grandly held from October 16 to 18, 2021, in Huantai County, Zibo City, Shandong Province.
This year’s summit is themed “Collaborative Innovation, Cluster Formation, and High-End Development.” During the event, six parallel sub‑forums will be held, including the Municipal Water Supply and Urban Wastewater Resource Recovery Forum, the Forum on the Application of Membrane Separation Technology in the Petrochemical Industry, the Forum on the Research and Application of Hydrophobic Membrane Technology, the Forum on the Use of Membrane Technology for Zero Liquid Discharge, a Closed‑Door Meeting on Industry–Finance Collaboration, and a Forum on the Enterprise Standard “Leader” System and the Preparation of Enterprise Standards. These sessions are distinctive and highly engaging, and we are confident that, through the exchange of ideas and sincere cooperation, they will yield abundant and fruitful results.
At the opening ceremony, the China Membrane Industry Association officially unveiled the “14th Five-Year Plan Outline for the Development of China’s Membrane Industry,” with the launch event chaired by Wang Jiwen, Secretary-General of the Association. In subsequent plenary presentations, Zheng Genjiang, President of the China Membrane Industry Association, provided a detailed interpretation of the Plan. The ceremony also featured a solemn launch of the second edition of the “Membrane Technology Handbook,” presided over by Researcher Deng Maicun of the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Academician Gao Congjie, Chair of the Handbook Editorial Committee, and Professor Jin Wanqin, the Handbook’s chief editor, presented copies of the handbook to the China Membrane Industry Association and China Membrane Valley.
During the summit, a series of events were held, including the “International Forum on China–Africa Cooperation in Desalination and Water Resource Utilization,” along with six parallel sub-forums, meetings of relevant specialized committees, seminars on industry standards and guidelines, and an awards ceremony. Technical demonstrations and other activities have established an effective, multi-tiered, and substantive high-end platform for exchange.
The membrane industry is riding a powerful wave of rapid growth that shows no sign of slowing, and the desire for intellectual exchange and the clash of ideas has never been stronger—inspiring both familiarity and excitement. By seizing the opportunities presented by the global restructuring of industrial chains and the new dual‑circulation development paradigm, and by following a scientifically sound path toward high‑quality growth, we must remain committed to leveraging science, education, and innovation, concentrating our efforts on breakthroughs in key technologies, and elevating inter‑industry collaboration. With the vibrant exchanges and insights shared by leading industry figures and distinguished experts, this summit is sure to offer fresh perspectives and spark new momentum, amplifying the resounding call for high‑quality development in our era.
